Seberus wants to contribute to a better future for everyone. In order to reduce the pressure on the environment in the production of pet food, we went in search of a high-quality alternative. The use of meat in dog food has the greatest environmental impact during the manufacturing process when compared to other aspects, so it was a no brainer to focus on an alternative to meat. We soon arrived at insects and more specifically the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) in dried form. Although consuming insects is still not very common in Europe, a large part of the world’s population already eats insects. They are used as a meat substitute for human consumption in, for example, insect burgers.

Since dogs are carnivorous animals which don’t naturally have a high amount of carbohydrates in their diet, we chose to base our foods on high amounts of meat and fish. Dogs still need some carbohydrates though, so in many dog foods grains are added. However, these are known to cause indigestion or allergic reactions with dogs. This is why we chose to add potato and peas for high quality carbohydrates instead. To aid digestion further, we added a combination of plant based ingredients.
